Visa fraud gang busted in Dhaka

Umme Fatema Rosie (35), a Bangladeshi ex-pat living in Australia, is accused of luring Bangladeshis to move to Australia at a lower rate. She reportedly established liaison with many families and embezzled large sums of money. MABM Khairul Islam (47), a Supreme Court lawyer, gave Tk75 38,000 to Rosie to process his Australian migration visa. He filed a lawsuit against the woman after being deceived. CID Additional DIIG Imam Hossain, CID Additional DIG, said she had embezzled millions of dollars by creating forged documents for the "Relative Sponsor Migration subclass (855) permanent residency" type visa. While investigating the case, two members of Rosie’s gang were arrested by the CID in Dhaka. Md Simun Islam (26), and Ashfaquzzaman Khundaker (26) were arrested. Arguments in graft case against ex-CJ Sinha on Sept 14

Monday's hearing in Dhaka saw the setting of September 14th for the closing arguments by the prosecution. This was in response to a case against Surendra Kumar Sinha, former Chief Justice and 10 others who were accused of embezzling Tk4 crore from Farmers Bank and laundering it abroad. Judge Sheikh Nazmul alam of Dhaka Special Judge court-4 made the order. The accused was the former chairman of the Farmer's Bank's Audit Committee Md Mahbubul Haque Chisty, alias Babul Chisty. Vice-president M Lutful Haque, managing director AKM Shameem, and Gazi Salauddin, were the other defendants. They also gave written statements to defend themselves before the court. On August 29, seven of the 11 accused in the self defense statements had pleaded not guilt and sought justice from the court.
